School lunch at the Usa (oosah) campus, Wednesday, Makande with Ugali and Okra. Makande has to be one of the ugliest of dishes, but tastes fine. It’s a traditional dish. So is Ugali, which is basically maize flour and water. I’ve tried it and am satisfied never to eat it again. The Africans believe Ugali makes you strong, so they eat loads of it. Unfortunately, a dish of pure carbohydrate is unlikely to contribute much to muscular development, and if you live a western lifestyle, it’s more likely to make you fat.
